Kristin Gyford, LCSW

One of my personal purposes is continuing to serve and support my veteran comrades by working alongside and empowering them, so that they can evolve, navigate, and manage whatever difficulties they are experiencing. I value family and recognize the struggles that family members and spouses can endure in their roles with their veteran or military member both in/out of service.

Like the many people I see, I too am a veteran. I served in the United States Air Force, stationed at Luke Air Force Base and was a Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Specialist. We provided operational support information for Force Support Squadrons that provided mission sustaining combat support and community services to Airmen and their families.

I have 19 years working in a variety of community mental health settings including having had my own Outpatient Clinic serving veterans, first responders and their families, to having worked in  intensive outpatient programs, recidivism programs and child welfare. I am bi-cultural and fluent in Spanish. I work with a variety of veteran specific issues such as understanding the complexities veterans experience, including transition back into civilian life, navigating the VA system. I treat a variety of trauma types including Combat, MST, Moral Injury, and other military related issues. In addition, treat mood disorders, depression, family issues, anger management, and anxiety.

I am board approved to supervise clinician interns during their journey on getting their licensure. In addition to Clinical Consultation, I provide workshops and trainings aboutmilitary/veteran culture for Colleges and Universities, Community Mental Health agencies and other community organizations interested in promoting mental health, self-care and education around working with the veteran population.

I hold a master’s degree in social work and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with both the Montana Board of Behavioral Health and the Oregon Board of Licensed Social Workers. I am trained in evidence-based practices such as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy & Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

During our first session, please note, "Wonder" my dog will accompany us. She is my co-therapist and loves to help you feel comfortable during your visit. When she isn't at work, you might see her with me in the community. At that point, she will be wearing her Service Dog work vest, please note that she is off duty serving others and main mission in working strictly for me. No petting, eye contact or calling her name as it can distract her from her duties. I look forward to working with you!
